Year of living Biblically Chapter 5

1) So you shall do with any lost thing of your brother’s which he looses and you find.

a. This quote means that if you find something of someone’s, and you know/can find out whose it is, than you should return it. A.J. uses this quote because in the following passage he finds a previous persons checkbook. He returns it, and in return gets a thank you note and a gift card to Starbucks. This simple rule is for the most part ignored today. For the most part people do, or believe what benefits them the most whether that be “finders keepers,” or if they loose something the golden rule.

2) These are the living things which you may eat among all the beasts that are on the earth.

a. This quote means that not everything that lives on this planet should be eaten. For Jacob this simply means that he cant eat pork, or some birds, but the historical meaning is much more than that. In the past diet was one of the ways to distinguish between different religions and cultures. A.J. goes so far as to ask if the pie crust at the restaurant had lard.
